This is Bobby at his finest...he sprung for great seats for us all and we went in style. I wasn't dating Mike yet (but I think that this was his secret hook-up! HA! It worked....) Bob got a van and we all tooled over to soldier field with a trunk full of sandwiches & pops and a big boom box. After the concert (which was totally rockin....except when Keith played the wrong riff) we tailgated forever crankin' Stones tunes out of his big boom box, dancing, singing & eating and were one of the last cars to leave the parking lot!
He made a big impression on me that day, with his larger-than-life generosity....and we were fast friends from then on (he even let me come to his Bears parties on Sundays-a total dude sports FEST!)
But more than that, he taught me about living a spiritual sober life- full of love and laughter. His laugh and words will echo a long time...
Yeah,Bob was my buddy,I have a special place in my heart for guys named Bob,like Dr.Bob,and I am named after my Uncle Bob.Me and Bob pretty much determined that we were kindred souls that must have been at countless shows together at the Aragon Brawlroom, but did not meet until about 10 years ago.He was the kind of guy that I instantly liked-the big brother that I always wanted and a blast just to be around. He said many things that will stay with me for life, but the one that always made me laugh is when he started talking about what he wanted to be when he grew up: "I wanted to be a Rock Star like Mick Jagger,A Secret Agent,An Oceanographer like Jacques Cousteau..." Well my friend, you achieved this and so much more.In my book you were bigger than Mick will ever be,You became a Secret Agent for God,and an Oceanographer of the highest grade by your love of the sea and exotic places.Bob taught me one of lifes greatest lessons on the 4th of July-After having a plate of food and watching him ceremoniously do his own pyromania display of fireworks,I had a chance to talk with him one on one:As he was beaming from ear to ear,he looked at me and said, "Isn't this great-being able to be around people you love". I'll close with this: Today I was at a thrift store looking at a pile of records, sifting thru the usual mid America swill, when all of a sudden a doudle Lp of The Who (Magic Bus + My Generation)pops into my hands, and all I could think of was,Thanx Bob for letting me know that they have good music in Heaven!!! Love from your Buddy,Bob Buchholz
